I’m A Dreamer. One Of Those Crazy Ones

Something that you may or may not know about me – I didn’t know until recently – is that I have the unfailing ability to believe that all my dreams, however grandiose and elusive, will come true. So much so that I find it hard to go about “normal” things. Could it be that I’m just destined to fulfil great potential? I like to thinks so; however, that is part of the downside of this rather ambitious character trait.

I do believe, as discussed previously, that God’s plan for me is to be in a position to speak and influence people on a large scale. This, perhaps is one of the reasons for my belief that I can do anything. Although, “believing in yourself” is a motif of Disney films of which I have been an avid fan of since childhood, so one could argue they are to blame. We all know that I want to be on Glee – something that I actually honestly expect (or expected? I’m not so sure after revealing this about myself) to happen next year – and I am constantly pursuing new ways to achieve said goal. Let’s recap:

Glee Open Audition:
In April this year I auditioned for Glee through their online casting call on Myspace. Me and thirty-four-thousand other people. Unfortunately for me I live in Australia and so technically was not afforded the opportunity (I’ve already discussed that issue here). Of course, that hardly mattered once they cancelled the casting call – or so we thought. Recently I discovered that they had just finished processing the auditions and where planning to go ahead with the reality TV show, The Glee Project, early next year as part of a search to find a new guest star for season 3. I still was not contacted though, something that was honestly not a surprise as the fact that I live in another country and have an unhelpful lack of American working visas remains the same.

YouTube logoYouTube and Social Media:
It took the rest of the year, up until September, before I decided on my next course of action: YouTube. With the arrival of YouTube born stars Charice and Darren Criss on Glee I couldn’t help but fulfil my back-burning plan of recording myself singing, posting it on YouTube and waiting until someone discovered me and put me on the show too. I started my channel, iamtriplethreatening, and so far it has been marginally successful – probably due to the fact that, all pretensions aside, I am genuinely talented – and once I started posting videos of Glee performances from the show I have attracted an above average amount of views for someone starting out like me. Along with the introduction of my channel I have also started a Tumblr blog and Twitter profile – both of which I quite enjoy. Why? Well, every bit of web presence counts when you’re trying to get discovered.

Ellen and Oprah:
It seemed only appropriate that I submit myself to the two TV shows that I know of which can discover people – both had a part in Charice’s beginnings although Oprah was the one who really gave her a leg-up.  There is always the off chance of a lightning strike of luck. I know my friend also submitted me and so to my knowledge I have been submitted twice to both shows.

Australia’s Got Talent:
My latest, most adventurous, and potentially most successful attempt was to audition for the surprisingly fitting Australia’s Got Talent series which I did yesterday and do not get to find out the result for until February 4th at the latest. A friend (another one, as this quest to be on Glee has become a recognised fact amongst my clique) suggested I audition for the show as a means to my vigilantly sought after end. The more I thought about it the more it made sense as a solution. A show like that would give me quick and extensive exposure and upon the hopeful outcome that I won the competition I would just be given money enough to chase a dream with my new-found recognition and not have to worry about contracts and record deals. Also, the technicality of obtaining a US work visa would be much easier achieved, whether I won or not, as there is a special category for extraordinary achievements in the arts which I can only assume would include national recognition on a TV show. What’s more, if, while on the show, I could combine my exposure with some sort of publicity stating that I wanted to be on Glee, I would be in a much better position to catch the attention of the show’s producers. My YouTube channel may still be of use in that capacity too.

So, here’s to crazy dreamers’ dreams coming true.
